Cyberattack on the Slovak cadastral system (ÚGKK). Critical property data is inaccessible; some may be recoverable from paper records, but some could be irreversibly lost. No proper backups available. Hackers demand a 7-figure ransom in USD.

The consequences for the State and citizens may be dire: halted property transactions, legal disputes, and potential long-term chaos in land ownership records.
Hab die Quelle mal ins englische übersetzt und hier ein Teil daraus:
No quality backups
The fact that the cadastral services are temporarily down wouldn’t be a big problem. There are actually two big ones:
- Whether and when will the state „reassemble“ cadastral data from its backups and what part of the data may be completely lost?
- When will the state be able to resume operation of cadastral services?
According to well-informed sources, the office lacks comprehensive data backups that could be used for quick recovery. No frequent, automatic backups of stored data were allegedly made.
The backups the office has are reportedly in a state that does not allow for quick recovery . On the contrary, it is estimated that data recovery will take weeks to months.
One of the sources also states that the state probably does not have complete data and some of it may be irretrievably lost in digital form. This would mean that the state would have to resort to restoration from printed documents or from electronic versions in other systems. However, it is likely that some of the data does not even exist in a non-digital form on the ÚGKK servers – meaning that the cadastre is the only one that has it.
